Art: Floral Design
Denise Town is a self-taught floral designer. She also co-owns Gallery 116, an art, gift & home decor store, in downtown Fishers. After graduating from Ball State University with a marketing degree, Denise had a successful sales career before retiring to raise two children. Then she discovered the art of floral arranging.
“I was always creative, but didn’t study art or focus in on my creativity until I was a stay- at-home mom. I had time on my hands and wanted to focus on the right side of my brain.“
Fabulous Faux Florals
An avid gardener, Denise transferred her love of live flowers into faux ones. Now her artistic designs last forever. She begins by choosing unique vessels to house her creations, then she adds exotic florals & feathers to form original arrangements.
Mixing Many Mediums
In addition to floral design, Denise also creates hand-beaded jewelry, hand-wired magnetic message boards, hand-painted wine bottle candles and hand-cut paper collages. She also offers custom home decor services through Gallery 116.
“I enjoy creating in all different mediums and like to invent things that can be used in everyday living. I also love helping people discover their own sense of style with Gallery 116’s home decor business.”
Store Showcases Artists
When Denise isn’t creating her own art, she enjoys teaching others through classes at Gallery 116. Winning the People’s Choice Award at the Home-A-Rama in 2002 and having Gallery 116 nominated for a Fishers Chamber of Commerce Pillar Award in 2006 are career highlights.
“My partner, Tracy Gritter, and I spent two years in my basement developing the ideas and building the courage to start Gallery 116. In January 2002, we gathered other artists and gave them a place to display their goods. Now we operate on a consignment basis and display approximately 50 local artists at a time.”
