Art: Musician
Fishers resident Elizabeth Ahlgrim once thought she was in love with the piano, but after discovering the harp at age ten, it was love at first sight.
“I had been playing piano for several years and wanted to try something else. My family supported my decision to choose the harp. I loved how harps look and the uniqueness of the instrument.”
Lyre Equals Love
After studying the harp with private instructors and at Indiana University, Elizabeth began playing as a soloist. She has performed with the Carmel Symphony, Fishers Chamber Players, the Lafayette Symphony and at numerous special events.
Elizabeth credits her parents with supporting her early love of the lyre but says her husband is her biggest fan. For those interested in pursuing this elegant instrument she recommends trying it out first. Entry level non-pedal harps start at $4,000 and can cost as much as $175,000 for a Gold model.
Family Fuels Passion
Now Elizabeth’s harp shares space with the piano in the home she shares with her husband and three children.
“I am always inspired by my children and husband. I love their reaction to hearing me play and love it when they can hear me perform at events. But I also get inspired by my clients especially brides. These couples all have wonderful stories and I love being a part of their history.”
Music Made for Matrimony
During the more popular months, Elizabeth can be booked for weddings every weekend, for all 3 days!
“Weddings are still the largest part of my business. I am fortunate to be invited to play all over the state. After 20 years, I still love to watch a bride walk down the aisle!”
