Artist of the Month (February) – Elizabeth Ahlgrim
Art: Musician

Fishers resident Elizabeth Ahlgrim once thought she was in love with the piano, but after discovering the harp at age ten, it was love at first sight.

“I had been playing piano for several years and wanted to try something else. My family supported my decision to choose the harp. I loved how harps look and the uniqueness of the instrument.”

After studying the harp with private instructors and at Indiana University, Elizabeth began playing as a soloist. She has performed with the Carmel Symphony, Fishers Chamber Players, the Lafayette Symphony and at numerous special events.

Elizabeth credits her parents with supporting her early love of the lyre but says her husband is her biggest fan. For those interested in pursuing this elegant instrument she recommends trying it out first. Entry level non-pedal harps start at $4,000 and can cost as much as $175,000 for a Gold model.

Family Fuels Passion

Now Elizabeth’s harp shares space with the piano in the home she shares with her husband and three children.

“I am always inspired by my children and husband. I love their reaction to hearing me play and love it when they can hear me perform at events. But I also get inspired by my clients especially brides. These couples all have wonderful stories and I love being a part of their history.”

Music Made for Matrimony

During the more popular months, Elizabeth can be booked for weddings every weekend, for all 3 days!

“Weddings are still the largest part of my business. I am fortunate to be invited to play all over the state. After 20 years, I still love to watch a bride walk down the aisle!”

Elizabeth, I am so glad we have you for our wedding! Meeting you was great and hearing you play in person really helped us to decide! I cannot for May!

Elizabeth played the harp at my wedding and it was fantastic. I thought the church might be too large for a solo harp, but the music filled the church throughout the ceremony. Hard to believe that was over 10 years ago. I agree with what Michelle posted. If you hear Elizabeth play in person, you will not have any doubts about what she can bring to your event, wedding or social gathering.

Elizabeth played the harp at the Rehearsal Dinner we hosted for our son David and Paige. Elizabeth did a fabulous job and her music set the mood. She plays beautifully and is very reliable. I would recommend her highly.

My husband and I had Elizabeth play at our wedding almost 13 years ago and I have heard hear play at several other weddings and events. She is always perfect! The harp is such an amazing instrument and she is truly talented on it. Elizabeth is very personable and easy to interact with. She is a good friend and neighbor and I know any of you won’t regret having her play for your special event.

Wow! Reading this article took me down memory lane. Elizabeth played at our wedding many years ago, and I have seen her play at several other weddings and events since then. I also hired her for a cocktail party a couple years ago and the guests were all amazed and impressed with having a live harpist. With technology today, everyone can have an ipod with their own personal playlist, but having a live musician allows for requests and is just that much more spectacular – in my opinion it’s the “touch” that takes an event to the next level, from bland to really special. Our guests seemed so appreciative and impressed with that detail. The background music allowed for people to talk to each other without being obtrusive and the variety of music genres she plays kept everyone entertained with songs they knew. Elizabeth is so easy to work with and professional, she made great suggestions and really helped us plan through every detail… definitely worth the investment for any social or business event.
