Artist of the Month (October 2009) – Robert Ryan

Artist of the Month (October 2009) – Robert Ryan
Art: Oil, Acrylic, Water Color & Colored Pencil

While Robert Ryan says he’s only focused his energies on his art full-time for the past seven years, he admits he’s worked his entire lifetime trying to emulate the beauty and wonder of the nature that surrounds him. This lifelong Hoosier is a member of the Hoosier Salon, the Fishers Arts Council and the Indianapolis Arts Council and exhibits in Hamilton and the surrounding counties.

The first show he entered was Renditions of Nature of Eagle Creek, where he eventually became the show coordinator, in April 2006. More recently, he was awarded a first place by the Artist Guild of Delaware County for “Red Macaw,” a piece that has won numerous awards.

Robert also participated in the Fishers Arts Council’s “CaBoost the Arts” in 2007 and has a piece on permanent display at the Higher Grounds coffee shop located in Fishers, IN.

Artistic Inspiration: Land and Sea

Robert discovered a love for marine life while studying marine biology in the Florida Keys. He has his open water PADI certification and continues to dive as often as possible. Robert also belongs to several conservation groups including the Oceanic Society, NRDC and REEF and expresses his love and insight into the natural world through his talents as an artist with representational pieces of wildlife, landscapes and seascapes.

“My subject matter stems from the images that I capture first hand either on land or under water. When appropriate, I take these images and work them into the basis for illustrations, murals or canvas and board paintings working in several media such as colored pencil, pastel, watercolor as well as oils and acrylics.”
